Tempe St. Luke's Hospital, in partnership with Surgical Weight Loss Solutions at Tempe St. Luke's, has been designated as an ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (COE) by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) an independent, non-profit organization established by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) to improve the efficacy, efficiency and safety of bariatric surgery. ASMBS and SRC recognize Tempe St. Luke's Hospital and Surgical Weight Loss Solutions at Tempe St. Luke's for providing superior bariatric surgery patient care and delivering optimal levels of performance.

SRC Compliance & Excellence in Patient Care

To maintain our Center of Excellence (COE) designation, we continually adhere to stringent requirements designed to provide our bariatric patients with high quality care throughout their weight loss surgery journey. We continue to.

  1. Offer ongoing bariatric education programs for medical staff and patients.
  2. Perform more than 200 bariatric surgeries each year — exceeding the minimum 125 surgery requirement.
  3. Designate a medical director for our bariatric program.
  4. Ensure critical care resources are always available for our bariatric patients.
  5. Procure and maintain equipment appropriate for bariatric patient care.
  6. Work with highly qualified surgeons who specialize in bariatric surgery.
  7. Standardize preoperative care and bariatric surgical procedures.
  8. Dedicate nurses and program coordinators to bariatric patient care.
  9. Organize and supervise bariatric patient support groups.
  10. Offer long-term bariatric patient follow-up – exceeding the minimum five-year requirement.

To ensure ongoing COE compliance, we also continue to share clinical, process and patient outcome data with the ASMBS and SRC annually. This Center of Excellence designation provides us validation of our demonstrated track record of success and our ongoing dedication and commitment to providing high quality care and services to our valued patients.
